How to do a slide

≡ Category: Guitar Techniques |

The slide. Not be confused with "playing slide" or "slide guitar" which involves using a slide (a metal, glass, or ceramic tube) instead of your fingers (or in addition to your fingers). The slide I’m referring to is a technique used in lead and rhythm. It’s a simple and effective technique that involves sliding your finger or fingers up or down the neck. Lets take a look at a whole note slide. It’s simple. pick the note and slide your finger up the neck two frets making sure to keep a steady even pressure on the fret hand. Stringed instrument are the only instruments with the ability to slide two or more notes simultaneously.  Here’s a typical rock slide using a power chord variation. Slide the entire pattern up evenly and steadily.

Do a slide up or down, anywhere on the fretboard, as many notes as you want. One of my favorite creations starts with a nine fret slide. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, try sliding entire chord patterns.
